Play, Share, Connect – A Journey of Cultures, Sports & Self-Discovery in Cognac, France

A week of sports, networking, friendships awareness raising and fun, in Cognac, organized to encourage young people to engage in regular physical activity through sports challenges, use social media responsibly and constructively, foster a sense of belonging in community among young people, and promote mental well-being.

From July 7th to 15th, young people from France, Albania, Italy, and Turkey came together in Cognac, France for a week filled with sports, learning, and connection. Hosted by Association Squash La Belle Alle, the project aimed to encourage youth to adopt healthy lifestyles through regular physical activity, while also promoting the responsible use of social media, community belonging, and mental well-being.

This dynamic exchange was more than just fun and games. Through daily sports challenges and interactive sessions, participants explored how physical activity positively impacts mental health. Activities such as dodgeball, team challenges, and even a capoeira session provided everyone with an inclusive space to learn, collaborate, and grow.

Beyond physical activity, the project opened conversations on how young people relate to social media. Participants engaged in thoughtful debates with one another and discussions with locals, reflecting on both the benefits and challenges of the digital world. These moments fostered a critical awareness around online behavior, digital responsibility, and the importance of real-life interaction.

By the end of the week, every participant left with something valuable, whether it was a new friendship, strengthened soft skills, a deeper understanding of mental wellness, or simply the joy of spending meaningful time with peers from across Europe.

The project not only succeeded in raising awareness but also built a cross-cultural network of youth committed to healthier living and positive social engagement. A true reminder that learning can be active, fun, and transformative, especially when done together.
