DiCreNDI project aims to bring together visually impaired people and youth workers in order to enhance the social inclusion efforts of the young visually impaired and raise awareness about the needs and skills of the VIPs. It is wanted to develop communication techniques in order to promote inclusion, to improve confidence and self-empowerment, and to learn methods of working together in various situations. Non-formal tools and activities will be used, as well as sports and outdoor activities.
A 5-day training course for 25 youth workers, 5 of them visually impaired/blind (1/country) held in Cluj-Napoca and Băișoara, in the wonderful region of Transylvania, Romania.
The participant youth workers to the training course are:
- Citizens or legal residents of Albania, Ireland, North Macedonia, Poland or Romania;
- Age 18+;
- Connected to their sending organization, as volunteers, staff, colaboraters, etc. (according to the Romanian National Agency, a CV is required, as evidence of that connection);
- Ready to learn and acquire new methods for working with disabled young people, especially with the visually impaired/blind;
- Using or intending to use non-formal education methods and tools in their working activities.
The selection method will include a unique application form elaborated by Asociatia Babilon Travel which will be disseminated to all the partner organizations. The candidates will fill it out and the sending partners will evaluate and make the final selection, based on the following criteria:
- Status of the participant: disabled/non-disabled youth worker or accompanying person;
- Experience in the work with young people;
- Motivation to get involved in the work with the visually impaired youth;
- Potential and availability to multiply and disseminate the project’s results, by:
- Writing stories/posts/articles about their experiences in the project and then post these on their websites, social media platforms and in the project Facebook group and page;
- Participating to the 2 preparatory meetings (on-line or face-to-face) and the dissemination events organized by the sending organizations on local level;
- Preparing, inside their country team, the intercultural night;
- Committed to attend for the full duration of the course;
- Agree to respect all Romanian regulations regarding the pandemic during all the activities of the training course;
- Have English language skills;
Since there will be 5 participants facing visual impairment (or even more, depending on the applications sent and the selection process), each partner will also select an accompanying person, citizen or legal resident of the country of the sending organization, that will support the disabled participants during the journey and during the activities. These accompanying persons should be:
- Experienced in guiding disabled persons;
- Ready to support the visually impaired youth workers 24/7 during the journey to Romania and back, and during all the activities.
- Able to use English as working language.
At the end of each activity, each youth worker will receive a Youthpass certificate.
